eMusic - MP3 Music Download Service

eMusic is a nice music service. It’s currently a runner up. If you want to know what MP3 music service we like best, click here.

There’s two great reasons to signup to eMusic right now. First, they have a free trial going on (we’ve linked to it below). Second, you get 50 free downloads. Can’t argue with that.

[ you can get the eMusic free trial + 50 free downloads here ]

And nope, there’s no catch. You can signup for the free trial, download 50 free MP3s, cancel the trial and keep em! It even says so right on their Web site.

eMusic’s MP3 download service works with iPod, Zune and any other MP3 player we’ve seen.

Song List: Currently, eMusic has a nice collection of 3.5 million songs.

While eMusic isn’t a 5-star product, it’s pretty decent.

eMusic Review Key Points:

  1. Free trial, so you can see what it’s like first.
  2. 50 free music downloads (cancel and keep, a plus).
  3. 3.5 million songs.
  4. True MP3 files, so they’ll play on anything out there.
  5. Pricing at about 25 cents per song, which is way cheaper than iTunes.
  6. Good for Windows and Mac users.

eMusic User Feedback:

Even though we’ve given eMusic a 3 of 5 rating (meaning it’s a decent MP3 service), we’ve heard from many users who love it.

Anon eMusic User: 9 / 10 Unmatched indie selection, great writing, higest-quality encoding, referral bonuses, low cost per track, NO DRM!!!

Anon eMusic User: 9/10 One-fourth the price of iTunes, non-leash subscription.

Anon eMusic User: 8 / 10 Overall eMusic is a great music download service. And it will be the best for people who love independent music(like me). I found this site is my best source for download some downtempo, nu-jazz for tuning.

Featured eMusic User Review: 9 / 10 All these people who say emusic has poor selection, IMO, are not the type of consumers who would like this service. Also, there was one review where someone said “it is okay if you like strange music.” Well, if great jazz, blues, folk, classical, alt-country, oldies, and a variety from other independent labels count as strange, count me in!

You can sample music before you download it too, since they do have some covers of major label artists on it. It’s called PREVIEW people! I’ve never downloaded one of these and I’ve never downloaded anything I didn’t like.

Bottom line, if want good music at a fair price, that supports up and coming music, like to explore new types of music (expand beyond the barren top 40 land), and not be locked in indefinitely to i-(insert piece of hardware name here), than this site is for you. If you want top 40 stuff, do yourself a favor and buy the CD and rip it. It is worth the extra couple bucks to not be forever locked into an ipod.
